SUMMARY
REPORT RELATED TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING PROCESS FOR THE WESTINGHOUSE COLUMBIA FUEL FABRICATION FACILITY LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (DOCKET NUMBER: 70-1151)
On July 31, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff issued a Federal Register notice (FRN) informing the public of its intent to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) and the beginning of the scoping process (85 FR 46193) for Westinghouses license renewal application for its Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in Hopkins, South Carolina for an additional 40-years.
The NRC staff conducted the EIS scoping process between July 31 and August 31, 2020 in accordance with section 51.29 of Part 51 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Environmental Protection Regulations for Domestic Licensing and Related Regulatory Functions, which implements the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969. The NRC staff gathered comments from governmental agencies and the public via e-mail, standard mail, and regulations.gov. The enclosed scoping summary report summarizes comments and information gathered during the EIS scoping process, and from the written and oral comments provided during the public comment period for the draft environmental assessment published in October 2019 (84 FR 57777), which preceded the preparation of the EIS.

All participants of the scoping process (who have provided mailing information) will receive notification of issuance of the scoping summary report.
The next step in the environmental review process is the issuance of the draft DEIS. Notice of the availability of the DEIS and the procedures for providing comments will be published in the Federal Register.
