SUMMARY

OF A PUBLIC MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY ON JANUARY 28, 2021 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) on January 28, 2021. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP), Units 3 and 4, proposed alternative requirements for American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code)Section XI, Examination Coverage of Weldolet Branch Connection Welds, (VEGP 3&4-PSI/ISI-ALT-15).

O. Lopez-Santiago Summary of Meeting The NRC staff is reviewing proposed alternative VEGP 3&4-PSI/ISI-ALT-15 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20358A178) and provided SNC with a list of clarification items (ADAMS Accession No. ML21025A042). The NRC staff began the discussion by providing a brief summary of SNCs alternative request.

SNC proceeded with the following clarifications in response to the NRC staffs Item 1:

SNC described the ultrasonic inspection angles, frequencies, wave modes, and skew angles for the examinations shown in Figures 1-5.

SNC clarified/confirmed that Figure 2 is the best effort/augmented coverage for the axial scan, and Figure 5 is the best effort/augmented coverage for the circumferential scan.

In order to clarify Figures 1-5, SNC stated it would send a supplement to the alternative request including the addition of the information that is not clearly specified/identified in Figures 1-5, related to the inspection angles, frequency, wave modes, and transducers.

At the conclusion of the open session of the meeting, there was an opportunity for the public to provide comments and ask questions. There were no comments or questions from the public.

After the public portion of the meeting, the NRC staff continued discussions with SNC during a closed meeting to discuss proprietary information related to Item 2.
