Subject:

Request for an Extension of Comment Period on Draft NUREG-1757, Vol.2, Rev. 2, Consolidated Decommissioning Guidance, Characterization, Survey, and Determination of Radiological Criteria, Docket ID NRC-2020-0192 Submitted via Regulations.gov Project Number: 689

Dear Ms. Vietti-Cook:

On behalf of its members, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 1 appreciates the opportunity to review and provide comments on Draft NUREG-1757, Volume 2, Revision 2, Consolidated Decommissioning Guidance, Characterization, Survey, and Determination of Radiological Criteria.

In a Federal Register Notice dated December 8, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requested that stakeholder comments be submitted by February 8, 2021. NEI requests an extension of the comment period of 60 days to Friday April 9, 2021. We believe this extension is necessary to permit adequate stakeholder engagement on this important topic given the extensive nature of this revision, and as the industry works to develop its own, complimentary guidance on the license termination process.

If you have questions or require additional information, please contact me at (202) 739-8128, bsm@nei.org.

Sincerely, Bruce Montgomery c: Ms. Patricia Holahan, NRC/NMSS/DUWP Mr. Bruce Watson, NRC/NMSS/DUWP/RDB 1
