Dear Meghan,

Attached, please find the monthly summary of marine turtle removals for December 2020. This month we captured 11 Caretta caretta and 16 Chelonia mydas in the intake canal of the St. Lucie power plant on Hutchinson Island. One sea turtle was sent for rehabilitation and there were no mortalities recorded during the month of December. As with all sea turtle strandings at the Saint Lucie Plant, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was consulted and a stranding form was filed with the state through the Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network.

One sea turtle was sent to a rehabilitation facility for a non-causal injury this month. On December 15th, a juvenile green turtle was hand captured that had an old boat strike injury to its carapace. There was a deep 14 cm prop wound across the posterior carapace that opened into the body cavity. It also had limited mobility in both of its rear flippers. Ecological Associates, Inc.

biologists transported the turtle to the rehab facility at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne. Because this turtle was sent for rehabilitation for an injury or illness that was unrelated to the power plant, it was classified as non-causal.

The primary 5-inch barrier net encountered negligible amounts of algae throughout the month.

On December 9th, Underwater Engineering Services performed the quarterly net inspections on the first two barrier nets (the 5-inch and 8-inch A-1-A); no holes were found during the quarterly net inspections. Altogether, the primary barrier net has performed as designed and no turtles have been observed beyond the 5 inch net.

The tag numbers and morphometric data for all turtles captured during the month have been included with this report (see attachments/addendums). Also included is a spreadsheet for all captures, mortalities, injuries, and causal events delineated by species and by month for 2020. In

addition, this spreadsheet tracks fresh scrapes incurred on captured turtles for the current month, as well as the entire year.

No new Inconel tags applied - multiple tag scars. Moderate fresh scrape on left side of head.

8. RECAPTURE. Turtle was removed from the intake canal, tagged and released at Hutchinson Island on 1/10/18, 3/14/18, 9/5/19, and 12/15/20. No new Inconel tags inserted due to multiple tag scars.

9. REHAB (NON-CAUSAL). Stranding# AMM201215-001. Juvenile green turtle hand captured with old boat strike injury to carapace; deep 14cm prop wound across posterior carapace opens into the body cavity.

Limited mobility in both rear flippers. Turtle transported to the Brevard Zoo for rehab by Ecological Associates.

10. RECAPTURE. Turtle was removed from the intake canal, tagged and released at Hutchinson Island on 8/12/18, 10/5/18, 12/17/18, 9/26/19, 10/22/19, 12/7/19, 1/4/20, 10/7/20, and 12/15/20.

11. RECAPTURE.
