SUMMARY
OF THE SEPTEMBER 17, 2020, CATEGORY 1, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS NUSCALE POWER, LLCS COMPREHENSIVE VIBRATION ASSESSMENT PROGRAM The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a Category 1 public meeting on September 17, 2020, to discuss NuScales updates to their comprehensive vibration assessment program (CVAP) in connection with the planned Small Modular Reactor Standard Design Approval (SDA) application, which is currently in a pre-application phase. NuScale intends to submit the SDA application no later than November 2022. It is expected that the SDA would incorporate changes to the NuScale design that include an increase in thermal power output along with updates that improve commercial viability. Members of the general public participated via Bridgeline during the meeting.
The public meeting notice dated September 17, 2020, was posted on the NRC public Web site and can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML20248H325. The meeting was requested by NuScale to discuss the guidance in Regulatory Guide 1.20, Comprehensive Vibration Assessment Program for Reactor Internals During Preoperational and Startup Testing, Revision 4 and implementation of CVAP, CVAP measurement and Inspection Plan, and programmatic updates to address design changes and lessons learned from the design certification application CVAP implementation.

Outcomes:
- 1. The NRC staff provided clarification of RG 1.20 changes and gained understanding of NuScales implementation of the CVAP based on the guidance revision,
- 2. The NRC staff gained understanding of and provided feedback on the program changes for the planned NuScale SDA application.
