UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION In the Matter of VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER Docket No. 50-338-SLR COMPANY 50-339-SLR (North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2)
ORDER On October 15, 2020, the NRC provided notice in the Federal Register of the opportunity for members of the public to file a request for a hearing and petition for leave to intervene with respect to the subsequent license renewal application of Virginia Electric and Power Company for North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2, located in Louisa, Virginia. The deadline for filing a request is December 14, 2020.1 On November 23, 2020, Beyond Nuclear, Sierra Club, and Alliance for a Progressive Virginia (collectively, Petitioners) submitted a request for a 32-day extension of the deadline to file a request.2 After reviewing the extension request, pursuant to my authority under 10 C.F.R.
§ 2.346(b), I deny Petitioners request because Petitioners did not show special circumstances amounting to good cause for an extension.
1 Virginia Electric and Power Company; North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2, Subsequent License Renewal Application; Opportunity to Request a Hearing and to Petition for Leave to Intervene, 85 Fed. Reg. 65,438 (Oct. 15, 2020).
2 Partially Unopposed Motion by Beyond Nuclear, Sierra Club, and Alliance for a Progressive Virginia for Extension of Deadline for Filing Hearing Requests (Nov. 23, 2020). Petitioners represent that the NRC Staff does not oppose their extension request. Virginia Electric and Power Company on behalf of itself and Old Dominion Electric Cooperative filed an answer opposing the extension request. Applicants Answer Opposing Beyond Nuclears, Sierra Clubs, and Alliance for a Progressive Virginias Motion for Extension of Deadline for Filing Hearing Requests (Nov. 30, 2020).
