STAFF REQUIREMENTS - STRATEGIC PROGRAMMATIC OVERVIEW OF THE DECOMMISSIONING AND LOW-LEVEL WASTE AND NUCLEAR MATERIALS USERS BUSINESS LINES, 9:00 A.M., THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2020, COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC VIA WEBCAST)
The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff on topics associated with the Decommissioning and Low-Level Waste (DLLW) business line and the Nuclear Material Users (NMU) business line. Topics discussed during the DLLW business line portion of the meeting included innovations within the business line, including rulemakings for Greater-than-Class-C waste disposal and in situ uranium recovery (UR) regulation, transition of decommissioning plants from the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, and risk-informing decommissioning and UR guidance. Topics discussed during the NMU business line portion of the meeting included transformation and innovation activities within the National Materials Program, use of technology to enhance materials workflow management and data analytics, and openness and coordination with external stakeholders.
