UPDATE ON STAFF RESPONSE TO THE OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERALS AUDIT OF THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSIONS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM (OIG-20-A-12)
On July 23, 2020, staff responded to the Office of Inspector Generals (OIG)s Audit of Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) Emergency Preparedness Program, dated June 23, 2020, and agreed with the three recommendations. In the OIGs memorandum to the Executive Director for Operations, dated August 5, 2020, the OIG determined that the staffs proposed actions would resolve the recommendations. This memorandum provides an update on the staffs planned actions for Recommendation 3.
Recommendation 3:
Make content and design changes to improve accessibility and clarity of the emergency preparedness and incident response public Web pages, including
- a. Use plain language and best practices to provide information targeting specific audiences (e.g., industry government partners, general public).
- b. Improve connections between the program office pages with emergency preparedness information and existing public affairs resources.
Current Status Staff, in coordination with the Office of Public Affairs, created 1 and revised 16 emergency preparedness and incident response public Web pages to reflect plain language, provide up-to- date information, including removal of obsolete or inapplicable information, fix broken hyperlinks, and ensure all hyperlinks connect to relevant sources.
