Subject:
Withdrawal of Request for Review and Endorsement of NEI 09-05, Guidance on the Protection of Unattended Openings that Intersect a Security Boundary, Revision 1, Dated April 2020
Dear Ms. Atack:
On May 22, 2020, Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) requested NRC review and endorsement of NEI 09-05, Guidance on the Protection of Unattended Openings that Intersect a Security Boundary, Revision 1, Dated April 2020. Revisions to the document are related to defining unattended openings and were made using a study conducted by Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) as a technical basis. Sandia has been funded to conduct additional testing of unattended openings that will apply specifically to power reactors. Accordingly, NEI would like to withdraw our May 22 request for review and endorsement until the new testing is completed. Depending on the results of the testing, NEI will determine if a revision to NEI 09-05 is warranted. Testing results are expected in late 2021.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact AJ Clore at (202) 739-8025, ajc@nei.org or me.
Sincerely, William R. Gross c:
