[External_Sender] Deny Waste Control Specialists/Interim Storage Partners' a license for high level waste To whom it should concern, Mistakes not only CAN happen, they DO. Dealing with such a substance that will be radioactively toxic for a time span we cannot really control or comprehend, you must deny the permit. A very simple human mistake at one of the labs using the wrong kind of absorbent to clean up a radioactive spill led to the release of radioactivity into the air at WIPP. Nuclear plants have been compromised by simple human errors like using a candle to see of an air leak was stopped which led to the event at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. Ive had an engineering tour of Diablo Canyon before it was operational. The engineering was impressive, but a basic concept is, with simplicity, you get reliability. That plant was anything but simple in its design.
I was on a steep descent on a freeway in very foggy conditions and was passed by a large truck with radioactive signs on it. That was a VERY steep grade and it was DENSE fog, and I was passed by this truck at a speed considerably faster than my comfortable speed in those conditions (and I was driving sports cars at reckless speeds at that point in my life, so I was not necessarily slow on the road that day either).
Transporting High level Nuclear waste is a bad idea in all regards.
Please deny the license.
