[External_Sender] Please Approve the Texas CIS Facility Hello, my name is David, and I am a Texas resident. I am writing today as an advocate for nuclear energy and a supporter of the Texas consolidated interim storage (CIS) facility as a safe solution to used fuel storage.
The responsible, consolidated interim storage of used nuclear fuel is essential to the life cycle of nuclear energy and helps ensure our nations largest source of carbon-free energy can continue to provide reliable, carbon-free power for millions of homes and businesses across America. Over the past 35 years, more than 1,300 spent fuel shipments have been completed safely in the United Statesand worldwide, there have been at least 20,000 safe shipments of more than 80,000 metric tons of spent nuclear fuel. Over the course of nearly 50 years and thousands of shipments, there has never been a release of radioactive material to the public.
The proposed project will deliver economic benefits to surrounding communities, reduce costs for electricity ratepayers nationwide and help solve long-standing issues for the nations largest source of carbon-free energy. Additionally, the development of such a facility will allow for quicker decommissioning at sites across the country, giving surrounding communities the chance to restore the land at those sites for new uses.
For these reasons, I believe the Texas CIS facility is in the best interest of Texans seeking responsible solutions for used nuclear fuel storage, offering an opportunity to grow our economy, benefit consumers and advance public safety.
