Dear Mr. Sheehan:
United 4 Clean Energy is a community-based group that draws its members from those concerned about the decommissioning of the Indian Point reactors who live within 50 miles of the plant. We would like to notify you that we represent a wide broad spectrum of organizations and individuals who follow this issue closely. Please include us in your list of Community Advisory Boards for Indian Point.
We have formed early in the decommissioning process because there is a lot to learn and keep track of. We support the formation of the NYS Decommissioning Oversight Board and look forward to working with such a Board to provide grassroots support and outreach. We will inform the decision-making processes of stakeholders for various decommissioning activities with facts and with a recommended course of action.
We meet once a month and our presentations are open to the public. Our core group consists of 20 people, most of whom represent other organizations. We use consensus as our method of decision making and work with other groups outside of our core group to inform and educate the public. We anticipate hosting experts and local decision makers at our monthly meetings as circumstances warrant and sharing this information with the public through normal means of distribution. We are an advisory panel for the community and are dedicated to improving community engagement and outreach.
We have no specifically assigned funding sources and anticipate raising money from our members as the need arises. We keep transcripts of our meetings to record our decisions and as a record of what we have accomplished.
