By letter dated October 20, 2015 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16042A015), as supplemented, the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) submitted its Safety Analysis Report for the renewal of Facility Operating License No. R-125 for the UML Research Reactor for U.S. NRC review.
Attached is a draft of the NRC staffs summaries of the discussion of audit items related to the license renewal audit plans provided to UML by letters dated July 19, 2017, and February 4, 2020 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML17192A851 and ML20021A315, respectively). We are providing a copy of this draft, prior to completing the audit and formally transmitting an audit report, to provide UML with the opportunity to ensure that the information in the summaries is clear and understandable, and consistent with UMLs understanding of the information discussed and actions UML plans to take to resolve the audit items.
If you have any questions regarding the draft information, please contact me and we can arrange a time to discuss. Please note that, because these are draft summaries, and because the audit is still in progress, changes to the summaries are possible before they are formally transmitted to UML. As necessary, the NRC staff may provide additional draft information for UMLs review prior to finalizing an audit report.
