[External_Sender] Docket: NRC-2018-0052 DEIS Comment My objections to Holtec's "interim storage proposal:"
Our state, New Mexico, does not have and will never have a nuclear generation station. We don't want to accept nuclear waste from other states most of which are over a thousand miles away!
We have already too much radioactive waste from NM mining and US cold war efforts.
Supposedly, the casks would safely store this radioactive waste for an indefinite future. If so, there should be no urgency for exporting it to us! Don't the nuclear utilities and governments in those states trust those casks? If not, we don't either!
As no permanent repository for this waste exists, the "interim" characterization of this Holtec proposal is a lie!
If NRC were to approve this faulty business plan, most of the costs will become another burden for taxpayers! Furthermore, the responsibility for handling this waste will be forever our government's. This hazardous proposal reeks of corruption, misguided local business interests and threats to other NM industries.
Please reject this proposal and find other ways to deal with that waste!
Respectfully submitted, Don Hyde 113-B Mesa SE Albuquerque NM 87106
