Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
Please do not approve this until all hazardous situations have been studied and solved. This is not the correct location, it is not properly secured, and what is being considered has too many flaws.
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway, presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning, to say the least. As you know, nuclear waste?s life span is hundreds of thousands of years, and each container it is transferred from also becomes nuclear waste. That causes an insurmountable problem. This site should not be approved for all the reasons stated above.
