Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
I remain opposed to any interim or permanent storage of nuclear waste in any part of NM. For all the reasons listed below, please leave it at the site where it is generated and those states that have nuclear waste, not here in NM.
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
