[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico
Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
The downsides of nuclear energy, the constant danger of nuclear power plant failure and making large areas of land impossible for safe human habitation for hundreds of thousands of years as well as the impossible safe storage of nuclear waste, have resulted in Europe to shut down nuclear power plants and invest in renewable energy (wind and solar power).
The arid lands of New Mexico are inhabited by Native American who were promised to keep their ancestral lands in many treaties. It is unconscientious to once again break treaties, to once again have the United States government lie to the First Nations. This is THEIR land, NOT ours. New Mexico is not a waste land to be used as a nuclear power plant waste dump. There are thriving communities here that deserve protection. We are NOT the Nations nuclear waste trash heap!
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Sabrina Mcilwrath 827 Shire St SW Albuquerque, NM 87121 mihasm1@hotmail.com (859) 489-9153 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
