Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
I live in New Mexico (my chosen state) not very far from Carlsbad. New Mexico is beautiful and clean and I am outraged that there is a possibility that Holtec wants to trash the state with nuclear waste. This must not happen! In the event of storage site failure (a distinct possibility) the environment, people and animals would be contaminated and subject to adverse radioactive side effects, maybe death. Do not allow New Mexico become a dumping ground for nuclear waste!
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
