[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico

Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,

I have concerns as to the safety of this disposal site as well as the handling of the nuclear waste. The site is not out in BFE but rather close to existing highways. This site could be compromised by terrorist activity. There is not enough safety in allowing the transport of these hazardous materials from around the country, railroad as well as truck spills, as well as leaky containers. Too many variables that allow for potential accidents. I am also tired of seeing NM as the dumping ground for every bodies contaminates.

There is also the possibility of ground water and soil contamination due to leaking storage liners, cells/containers. The plan of temporary doesn't exist. 100+ years is a long time. Companies need to be responsible for their own waste-not sending it to us. I have worked on the Garlitz Grand Junction Co Super Fund UMTRA site driving a truck hauling radioactive tailings-and there were unreported accidents and spills involved. Don't repeat those mistakes.

I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?

-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.

--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?

--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.

--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?

--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.

Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Bridget Vaisvil 30 Dusty Trail Dr Placitas, NM 87043 ben2bfe@gmail.com (970) 210-2178 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
