Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
I take pride living in the state of New Mexico, a place that holds tremendous beauty, community, and culture. I personally feel that this proposed Holtec permit is not fair! I would like to see decision makers take pride in this state as well by defending the safety and security of its residents and making the tough decisions to turn down propositions such as this one. The health and livelihood of New Mexico residents matters.
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
