Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
I am 78 and lived in Alamorgodo, NM as a child in the early to mid fifties. There was community of young ones who had to deal with thyroid problems due to the unsafely of that region of the state. Keep your nuclear waste where it has originated--DO NOT put it on the road for transportation. We need alternative energy sources in every state of the union! New Mexico is done with being a nuclear dump for the nation!
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
