[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico

Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,

As a child I lived in Alamogordo, NM from 1952 to 1957. Many children in Alamogordo, including myself, dealt with thyroid issues and other serious health diminishments, some dying at an early age in their 30's. Our parents were also impacted by cancer. I am now 78. As a child I learned in Alamogordo schools that Nuclear Power plants would not be used until safe disposal of nuclear waste was determined. This was in my science book. Clearly this was a way of deluding the public. One of the foremost purposes of the US government is to keep its people safe. So let's start there. If you as a state are using nuclear energy then leave it at the site of generation. New Mexico has done its share in regards to fielding the negatives of nuclear energy. Putting nuclear energy waste on the road for transport is beyond absurd.

Leave it where it is generated so that everyone has a chance to seer that if you choose nuclear energy ,

then be prepared to suffer the consequences of nuclear waste. Other than that do you part as a citizen and please talk to your congress people about SAFE energy. I appreciate your taking my statement into consideration. Sincerely, Waltraud Ilse Kuerschner, P.O. Box 2463, Taos, NM 87571 575 779-1610 I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?

-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.

--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?

--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.

--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?

--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.

Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Waltraud Kuerschner PO Box 2463 Taos, NM 87571 waltraudilse@hotmail.com (575) 779-1610 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
