[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico

Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,

I urge, I beg that you not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico. The less transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel, the safer for us all. Lack of even considering Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site until a permanent repository is created should disqualify this permit in the first place.Moving these materials surely will be associated with increased leakage. Leaking all the way across the intervening states from various states is a scary probability which is not ameliorated by turning the shipment around to leak its way all the way back to source--or, other choices. Always, everywhere, real-time monitoring for leakage is the efficient, moral choice. An acceptable plan would include greater scientific study of the radiation risk to workers as well as addressing terrorism risks presented in one instance by the nearby highway.

I urge you to bring your full person to this life and death question, and I thank you I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?

-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.

--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?

--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.

--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?

--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.

Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, mary beth hulsey 3271 Solarridge St Las Cruces, NM 88012 maribethulsey@gmail.com (510) 647-9377 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
