[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico
Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
Hello, my name is Kayley Shoup. I was born and raised in Carlsbad,NM. My family owns a construction company called ?Constructors? that employs around 500 people. I care deeply about this community. I moved back home in December 2017 and almost immediately my life began to change in horrible ways because of what Carlsbad has turned into. In the short time since I have been back I have seen my 24 year old friend battle a rare and aggressive testicular cancer. Unfortunately it is stage 4 and terminal. I have seen my 50 year old mother battle Ovarian Cancer which is also rare, especially at her age. I have seen one 50 year old (that?s young) Constructor?s employee fight pancreatic cancer. Which is also rare.
I have seen another employee lose his life to cancer at 50. I have seen the 11 year old grandchild of a Constructor?s employee battle a rare cancer of the bone marrow. This is all in the past two years of my life. I?m only 27. We are dying here. Please don?t make it worse.
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Kayley Shoup 1532 La Vina Circle Carlsbad, NM 88220 ksinger@mac.com (575) 302-7587 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
