Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
Nuclear is never safe. It does not belong in the Land of Enchantment - we already have more than our fair share. Companies must look to alternative sources of energy that are clean and safe, not with afterlives of thousands of years.
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
