[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico

Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,

The risks of transporting spent fuel rods by rail through many states are far too great. The State of New Mexico is not a dumping ground for this waste and the landscape here may "seem" of little use but in reality is a fragile ecosystem that must be preserved at all costs. Nuclear energy must cease and the waste should not be foisted upon a state that does not even benefit in any way from it's production.

Holtec is a private company and is taking advantage of the poor economic situation in Southern New Mexico, a poor state which is already damaged as one of the top producers of fossil fuels. Better and more responsible ways must be employed to deal with this waste.

I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?

-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.

--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?

--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.

--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?

--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.

Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Eleanor Bravo 178 Cottonwood Lane Corrales, NM 87048 eleanor.bravo@gmail.com (505) 730-8474 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
