Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
The safety concerns re: transportation (on highways and bridges) of high level waste, the weight of the storage caskets, the cavalier attitude re: safety of caskets that are visible and vulnerable from international terrorism/planes, as well as the stability of the geology under that part OF NM HAVE NOT BEEN been addressed. In addition, we will be responsible for the "temporary" site after they get their money and their obligation to the site is over.
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
