[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico

Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,

Nuclear wastes from commercial reactors should not be shipped anywhere until we have a safe, final storage facility. The risks involved in shipping and temporarily storing nuclear wastes are unacceptable.

This proposal, to temporarily store commercial nuclear power plant waste, will require additional transportation once a final storage site has been determined. It is unacceptable to double the transportation risk.

It is also unacceptable to move these wastes to a location that has not and will not receive the benefits resulting from the generation of electricity from nuclear power. The risks involved in the current temporary storage locations are experienced by those who have received the benefits. This is the only acceptable solution until we have found a permanent solution to the nuclear waste problem - those who receive the benefits should experience the associate risks. [BTW, I lived for 30 years near Rancho Seco in CA and for 20 years near Three Mile Island in PA.]

I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?

-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.

--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?

--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.

--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?

--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.

Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Nancy Ostiguyu 29 Quedo Rd Santa Fe, NM 87508 nancy.ostiguy@gmail.com (814) 883-4340 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
