[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico
Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,
I am a grandmother of 3 and they all live here in New Mexico as do I. I am hoping that they will grow up to be healthy happy and functioning adults. With climate change already giving us stress and a big challenge, adding this to the mix is just tooooo much.
Handling Nuclear Waste in a responsible way is absolutely crucial to the safety of all. The Holtec plan that I read is not an efficient way of dealing with nuclear waste. It is dangerous and doesn't take into consideration the health and safety of business, transportation or the actual storage of the waste. It just doesn't make sense!! There are already radioactive emissions that occur in that area from the extensive oil and gas operations in the Permian Basin. Nuclear waste should not be transported across state lines.
It should be dealt with at the sites where it is. PLEASE stop this from occurring now! Tell Holtec this is the wrong way to do this and to be sensible and safe and stop this crazy plan.
I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?
-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.
--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?
--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.
--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?
--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.
Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Sheila Fox 4853 Southern Ave SE Albuquerque, NM 87108 shejofox@gmail.com (206) 898-5090 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
