Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, 30571 General Comment I strongly oppose Holtec International HI-STORE Consolidated Interim Storage Facility Project. This project would transport highly irradiated spent fuel from every nuclear power reactor across the United States to southwestern New Mexico. It proposes to be a temporary solution to an unsolved problem, but there is no other plan in place.

Thin walled casks that may crack and leak will be transported along rails and roads, and some by barge to reach the destination, which puts citizens at risk of exposure in route nationwide. My state of Georgia is at risk of road and rail accidents.

The people of New Mexico do not want to host this dangerous largest radioactive waste dump in the world.

The most outrageous finding is the NRC's evaluation regarding Environmental Justice, that, "There would be no disproportionately high and adverse impacts to minority or low-income populations." This is not true. The indigenous and Hispanic communities of New Mexico already bear the burden of radiation exposure from the downwind effects of the Trinity Atomic Bomb, uranium mining, and contamination from Los Alamos, and more.

All along the way land water and wildlife will be in danger of contamination.

Holtec also has credibility problems, and is not a trustworthy company to take care of waste that will be radioactive for hundreds of thousands of years! This permit should NOT be granted.

Sincerely, Joanne Steele 320 Sal Mtn. River Road Sautee Nacoochee, GA 30571 https://www.fdms.gov/fdms/getcontent?objectId=090000648486f873&format=xml&showorig=false 09/22/2020
