[External_Sender] Please do not approve Holtec permit in New Mexico

Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holtec comments,

ATTN: Nuclear Regulatory Commission: New Mexico should NOT accept the waste from all the nuclear power plants around the country. The Holtec nuclear-waste facility is proposed to be a temporary storage site near Carlsbad, but the U.S. has not specified how to permanently deal with this highly radioactive waste.

Please DO NOT allow Holtec to transport all the nation's high-level nuclear waste across our state to southeast New Mexico. Profit over safety is a terrible priority.

Main Concerns:

-- The plan to deal with a cask that is leaking on arrival is to send it back where it came from. A leaking cask being transported is hazardous and potentially disastrous.

I object to the approval of the Holtec Consolidated Interim Storage site near Carlsbad, NM. It would be safer to reduce transportation of highly radioactive used reactor fuel by leaving it at the site of generation until a permanent repository exists. ?

-- The proposed site is near a highway presenting a terrorism risk.

--?The plan does not adequately address radiation risk to workers. ?

--?There should be real-time monitoring for leakage.

--?The lack of consideration of Hardened On-Site Storage at the reactor site as an alternative is a glaring problem. ?

--?The lack of an on-site plan to deal with leakage is extremely concerning.

Thank you for your consideration Sincerely, Margaret Lopez 1315 Gold Ave SW Albuquerque, NM 87102 silverlopez@aol.com (505) 242-1478 This message was sent by KnowWho, as a service provider, on behalf of an individual associated with Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter.
