Dear US Gov't Hard-Workers at the NRC:
Please do not allow Holtec Int'l to get the OK to transport and STORE spent nuclear fuel, (SNF,) in the SE corner of our beloved state of New Mexico.
An alternative site, Yucca Mountain in Nevada, has already been partially prepared and Congress has already SPENT TAXPAYERS' MONEY for this purpose.
The powerful senator from Nevada who stopped Yucca from being used for the PURPOSE for WHICH IT WAS DESIGNED has retired. Even though he undoubtedly has many friends still in Congress, he should no longer be able to hold us taxpayers in thrall to his idea of NIMBY, (not in my back yard.)
Do what is best for the citizens of New Mexico. Our state already hosts many federal gov't facilities, such as Sandia Nat'l Labs, White Sands testing range, etc. Nevada or another state should step up. We already have 3 facilities which contain nuclear elements, Los Alamos, Sandia, and WIPP, the existing storage site for low-level nuclear waste in southern New Mexico.
