pumpsandcontinuetomeettheN+1concept.



RAI0202statesinpart:

AsdiscussedinAPPGWGLR170,theprimarystrategyfortheoffsitereplacementgeneratorsistoreplacethe

permanentlyinstalledancillarydieselgenerators.Therefore,thesamenominalgeneratorratingisselectedfor

theoffsitereplacementgeneratorsasforthepermanentlyinstalledancillarydieselgenerators(80kW,480V).

The alternate strategy, as described in APPGWGLR170 Section 9b, requires less power than the primary

strategybecausethePCSrecirculationpumps,andtheoffsiteportablepumpswouldnotbepoweredfromthe

offsite portable generator in this alternate configuration.  Therefore, the nominal rating of 80 kW / 480V is

consideredboundingfortheprimaryandalternateFLEXstrategies.



IdentifieddifferencewiththeRAIresponse:

Theoffsitereplacementgeneratorbeingprovidedforeachunitisa150kW/480Vdieseldrivengenerator.

portableequipmentisused.Thisportableequipmentishookeduptosafetyrelatedconnectionpointsandstored

SincethealternateFLEXstrategiesonlyusesafetyrelatedpermanentlyinstalledconnectionpointsandportable

equipment that are expected to survive all hazards, justification that the permanently installed nonsafety

equipmentfortheinitial(primary)strategysurvivesanyhazardisnotrequired.

Theportableequipmentishookeduptoprotectedconnectionpointsthatareeithersafetyrelatedordesigned

intheyard.



Thisisnotconsideredachangetothecompliancemethodasalltheplantconnectionsareconsideredprotected

anddesignedtobesurvivable(hazardrobust).



RAI0206statesinpart:



Therefore, both the PCS recirculation pumps and the PCS/SFP offsite portable makeup pump require an

envelopingdesignflowrateof135gpm.ThePCCAWSTmakeuppumpisdeterminedtohavearequiredflowrate

notanadverseimpacttositetravel.

x The NRC reviewers recalled that the Units 1&2 severe weather procedure had some actions for cold

weather,andtheyneededtoaddressiceconditionsfortheirhaulpaths.

Icebuildupcouldconceivablyaffecttheintegrityofanonrobuststructurewithicebuildup

onrooftops,etc.Thiswouldmostlikelyresultinacollapseofasmallportionofthebuilding

withintheexistingbuildingfootprint.Althoughpartialstructuralcollapsesmayoccur,there

arenobuildingsinthetravelpaththatwouldadverselyaffecttransportation.Extremecold

andicebuildupcouldconceivablyresultindownedpowerlinesandtrees.Anydownedlines

canberemovedwiththeonsitedebrisremovalequipment.

Units1&2haveamoreurgentrequirementforusingthehaulpathstostageFLEXequipment.However,

Units 3 & 4 doesnt stage FLEX equipment for the first 72 hours ensuring adequate time to address

possibleicyroadwaysand/ordebris.
