- LETTER 97-04, " ASSURANCE OF SUFFICIENT NET POSITIVE SUCTION HEAD.
FOR EMERGENCY CORE COOLING AND CONTAINMENT HEAT REMOVAL -
PUMPS," AT FERMI 2 (TAC NO. M99990)
Dear Mr. Gipson:
1The staff issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-04 on October 7,1997. The generic letter requested -
that licensees provide information necessary to confirm the adequacy of the net positive suction' head available for emergency core cooling and containment heat removal pumps. By a letter dated December 30,1997 (NRC-97-0143), the Detroit Edison Company (DECO) provided its 90-day response to GL 97-04. The staff has reviewed your response and has determined that -
additional information is necessary. Specifically, the staff requests DECO provide the value used for the pressure loss through a 50-percent clogged strainer in the net positive suction head calculations for the emergency core cooling pumps' NRC requests that DECO respond within 30 days of the date of this letter.
