, g,o June 22,1998 Mr. William M. Hewitt, President ATG Waste Management Allied Technology Group, Inc. (ATG) 2025 Battelle Boulevard Richland, Washington 99352 l
SUBJECT:
APPLICATION FOR SPECIFIC LICENSE TO IMPORT RADIOACTIVE WASTE (NRC ASSIGNED _ LICENSE NUMBER IWOO6) i
Dear Ms. Hewitt:
This is to bring you up-to-date on the status of the subject application and to request the submission of additional information which is necessary for us to complete our review, as follows:
1.
10 CFR 110.32(f)(6) states that, for proposed imports of radioactive waste, the status of l
any agreements by a low-level waste compact or State to accept the material for management purposes or disposal should be described. The Statement of Considerations for the rule states that NRC will not grant an import license for waste intended for disposal unless it is clear that the waste will be accepted by a disposal facility, in addition to having approval from the host State and compact.
NRC contacted the U.S. Ecology person listed in your import application who stated that U.S. Ecology has not agreed to accept the waste for disposal, and that they would have to receive approval from State and compact officials first. ATG should furnish a statement from U.S. Ecology, once State and compact agreement is obtained, stating that the company will accept these wastes for disposal. With respect to the State and compact approval for this import, you will need to contact both the Department of
. Ecology and Department of Health since both are involved in low-level waste. The addresses are'as follows:
