SUBJECT:

RADI0 ACTIVE MATERIAL MISSING FROM TEMPORARY JOB SITE IN WYOMING A State of Colorado representative notified Region IV that Berge Exploration, a State licensee, had reported that one of their employees and a logging truck containing a 125 mci cesium-137 sealed source were missing from a temporary job site near Gillette, Wyoming.

Initial information indicates that the berge employee was at the job site on Friday, May 28, 1976, but failed to appear the next day, May 29, after staying the night in Gillette at the Ramada Inn. The licensee received this information from a driller on the job when he called Berge's Denver office to inquire about the logger's failure to arrive at the job site.

Both the Gillette local authorities and the Adams County, Colorado Sheriffs' Department have been notified.

Berge's activities in Wyoming are not authorized by the NRC since no general license was processed pursuant to 10 CFR 150.20, " Recognition of Agreement State Licenses."

The State of Colorado is continuing to follow this matter. There has been no publicity to date. A press release is not planned at this time.

Region IV, NRC, Arlington,, Texas received notification of this by telephone call from the State of Colorado on June 2,1976, at 4:00 p.m.
