LEGISLATION TO REGULATE THE TRANSPORTATION OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS IN THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT The Senate and House of Representatives cf the State of Connecticut have raised Committee Bill No. 5908 in the General Assembly which states:

"(a) No person shall transport into or through the state any of the following materials:

(1) Plutoniun isotopes in any quantity and form exceeding two grams or twenty curies, whichever is less; (2) uranium enriched in the isotope U-235 exceeding twenty-five atomic per cent of the total uranium content in quantities where the U-235 content exceeds one kilogram; (3) any of the actinides the activity of which exceeds twenty curies; (4) spent reactor

  • fuel elements or mixed fission products associated with such spent fuel elements the activity of which exceeds twenty curies; or (5) any quantity of radioactive material specified as a 'Large Quantity' by the Nuclear

' Regulatory Commission in 10 CFR Part 71, entitled " Packaging of Radioactive Material for Transport," unless such person has received a certificate of emergency transport from the commissioner of environmental protection."

A hea' ring is to be held on this legislation at 10:00 a.m. on April 2, 1976 at the State Capitol, Hartford, Connecticut.

Media interest 10 expected because of normal press coverage of new legislative affairs and particularly because of interest in the nuclear industry. The above matter has been discussed with the State of Connecticut.
