CLOSURE OF LASALLE COUNTY STATION CONFIRMATORY ACTION.
. LETTER NOS. Rill-96-008 AND Rlll-96-008A
Dear Mr. Kingsley:
On July 2,1996, the NRC issued Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) No Rill-96-008 to document '
your commitments to address events at the LaSalle County Station involving the injection of expandable grout material into cracks in the screen house floor. On July 5,1996, the NRC issued supplemental CAL No. Rlll-96-008A to address fudher commitments made after the identification of grout in safety-related suction strainers. An Augmented Inspection Team was
. sent to the LaSalle County Station to identify the facts of the events and communicate any potential generic safety concems. On April 14,1997, the NRC issued supplemental CAL No. Rlll-96-008B to address further commitments involving design, plant material condition, human performance, corrective action process, and engineering support deficiencies.
The NRC staff evaluated the activities for CAL Nos. Rlli-96-008 and Rill-96-008A and determined that the CAL commitments were completed. The NRC inspection of these activities was 1
. documented in NRC Inspection Report Nos. 50-373/96008; 50-374/96008 and 50-373/96009; 50-374/96009. A final NRC staff review to ensure that all the CAL commitments were sufficiently addressed in the previous reports was documented in NRC Inspection Report No. 50-373/98004; 50-374/98004.
Based on the NRC inspection activities identified above, I have determined that CAL Nos' Rill-96-008 and Rlll-96-008A are formally closed. We note that CAL No. Rill-96-008B remains open pending completion of your Restart Action Plan and our review of thona actions.
