COMPLAINT REGARDING RATE OF EXPOSURE ACCUMULATION A representative of the St. Paul Minnesota area OSHA Office received a telephone call from a pipefitter employed by a piping contractor working at the Prairie Island Nuclear Station. His call was to complain about the rate that permissible quarterly radiation exposure j was being accumulated by the contract workers in connection with the ..

work they were doing at the plant. The OSHA representative stated that 2 workers had been released by the piping contractor because of i

their refusal to work and that 5 others had walked off the job. Seven contract pipefitters remained on the job.

The OSHA representative stated the caller indicated he would call Senator Humphrey's Office and the NRC Washington Office regarding this matter. ,

i Two NRC inspectors from Region III (Chicago) are at the site in connection with refueling outage inspection activities and will examine exposures and working conditions of contractor personnel.

There has been no publicity at this time but media interest is expected. g

, Region III received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the /

j St. Paul, Minnesota OSHA office at 2:00 p.m. on March 25, 1976.
