The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by OIE staff as of 4:45 p.m. on date of this notification. IT SHOULD BE SPECIFICALLY NOTED THAT THIS NOTIFICATION MAY CONTAIN INFORMATION THAT LATER MAY BE DETERMINED TO BE INACCURATE OR INCONSISTENT. PLANT'SHUTWOWN - FAILURE DIESEL - DRIVEN AUXILIARY FEEDWATER PUMP TO RUN The nuclear unit was shut down on 3/28/76 to investigate the cause of an oil level alarm on the "C" primary coolant pump. When the diesel powered auxiliary feedwater pump was manually started it tripped on an overspeed condition. A second manual start and several subsequent

  • manual start tests were successful. (See PN0's 76-34/34A for similar problems with auxiliary feedwater pumps.) The licensee has made a press release. Intereut by the State of Oregon and the news media is expected because of the previous problems with the auxiliary feedwater pumps.

Region V reactor inspector has been dispatched to the site.

NRC-(Region Vr Walnut Creek, CA) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Assistant Plant Superintendent at 8:10 a.m. on March 29,.1976.
