+

q E On June 11,1998, representatives of Siemens Power Corporation (Siemens) met with U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) management to. discuss progress in implementing changes in response to NRC Inspection Report 9990081/97-01 and other ongoing activities.

The representatives indicated that Siemens had completed the review and revision of its Quality Assurance Manual and that its engineering approach had been revised to provide increased planning, more attention to compliance, and increased communication with the NRC. Other topics discussed included Siemens evaluation of Appendix K and realistic large-break LOCAs, variability of peak clad temperature modeling using RELAP4, recent fuel performance, .

and status of topical reports submitted for NRC review. NRC personnel asked about factors causing variability in peak clad temperature prediction, fuel corrosion limits, improvements to the quality assurance program and extended bumup fuel performance. 3 i
