PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--
PNS-78-27 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events cf POSSIBLE-

national security or public interest significance.
The information presented l
is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.
Facility:
Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Units 1, 2, 3 Northwest Nuclear Energy Company Waterford, Connecticut

Subject:
BOMB THREAT On June 16,:1978 at approximately 12:27 p.m. a security guard received a telephone call from an unidentified male.
The call did not go through the switchboard and therefore, the call is believed to have originated from an onsite telephone. The caller stated, "A bomb will blow at 1:15 p.m."
Emergency bomb threat procedures were implemented and a search was instituted, the site was not evacuated.
The FBI and LLEA were notified.
The IAT was notified.
Media interest is expected.
The State of Connecticut has been informed.
A press release is not planned by the licensee nor NRC.
NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone call from licensee personel at 12:45 p.m., June 16, 1978.
