Dear Mr. Shepherd:

On May 28,1998, Steve Courtemanche of this office conducted a safety inspection at Fox

Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania of activities authorized under the license

listed above. Your activities in NRC jurisdiction are authonzed by a general license granted by

10 CFR 150.20(a). The inspection was an examination of your licensed activities as they relate

to radiation safety and to compliance with the Commission's regulations'and the license

conditions. The inspection was limited to observations by the inspector, interviews with

personnel, and a selected examination of representative records related to activities within the

NRC's jurisdiction. The inspeCJon was limited to the five-year servicing of a J. L. Shepherd &

Associates Model 81-14R irradiator at a, customer's facility. The findings of the inspection were ,

discussed with Michael Novak of your organization at the conclusion of the inspection. The

enclosed report presents the results of this inspection.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified.

In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules and Practices," Part 2, Title 10, Code of

Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter will be placed in the Public Document Room. No reply -

to this letteris required.
