SUBJECT:
REACTOR CAVITY REFUELING SEAL RING P0TENTIAL MISSILE HAZARD Portland General Electric Company, based on an analysis provided by Bechtel Power Company, reported that during a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) a potential exists that the reactor cavity refueling seal ring could fracture into missiles that could subsequently be propelled in such a manner as to impinge upon the control rod drive mechanisms.
j Reportedly, the short time period between the postulated accident and i
damage to control rod drives would be such that proper SCRAM action of affected rods could be inhibited.
This was considered by the. licensee to be an unanalyzed accident and, as such, was reported to Westinghouse EE Corporation for consideration.
