Dear Mr. Lohaus:
w Your letter, dated November 17,1997, concerning a review of our rules for compatibility with 10 CFR Part 20, has been received and reviewed. I noted that Enclosure 3 lists one compatibility concem for which a written response is requested. Please extend my thanks to staffwithin the Office of State Programs who evaluated the differences and inconsistencies identified by your contractor.
I was extremely pleased that only one issue was brought to my attention for action.
i With respect to the issue for action, I can report that a change to the definition for ALARA has been reviewed by the Radiation Control Board. A public 30 day public comment period will open on 1
December 1,1997. It is anticipated that the change will be effective about January 23,1998. A printed copy and an electronic copy of this change and other changes for compatibility matters has been directed, under separate cover, to Mr. Charles Hackney.
