SUMMARY
OF JUNE 4,1998 MEETING BETWEEN THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) AND WINSTON AND STRAWN ON MAINTENANCE RULE ISSUES i
l On June 4,1998 members from the NRC staff, Winston and Strawn, licensee representatives, and members of the public participated in a public meeting regarding maintenance rule issues.
l The meeting was held at the request of Winston and Strawn representing the industry Maintenance Rule inspection Clearinghouse (MRIC) to discuss issues related to recent maintenance rule baseline inspections.
Specific subject areas discussed in the meeting are listed in the meeting handout which is attached. In addition to these areas the NRC staff discussed the status of proposed changes to the maintenance rule and asked MRIC to consider reviewing the proposed rule changes and prepare and submit any comments during the upcoming public comment period.
In conclusion, the meeting discussions were open and will be beneficial in ensuring that licensees implement effective maintenance rule programs. The staff also reiterated to the I
attendees that maintenance rule information could be accessed through the NRC's maintenance rule hompage website and that questions regarding maintenance rule issues could be transmitted to the staff via the hompage.
