MEMORANDUM TO: Leonard J. Reidinger, Branch Chief Technical Training Support Branch Technical Training Division h"O Office for Analysis and Evaluation of Operational Data FROM: Thomas L. King, Acting Chief /s/

Control, Instrumentation, and Human Factors Branch Division of Systems Technology Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION The Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research is conducting an in-house research project with regards to digital Instrumentation and Controls (l&C) in nuclear power plants. For accuracy and completeness of our results, it is necessary to obtain l&C and plant system information on current nuclear power plants. We feel copies of certain documents from the Trojan simulator would greatly help our research efforts.

Attached is a TTD Resources Use Requests (TRR), which has been completed as outlined in the December 9,1996 memo, " Procedure for use of Technical Training Center Facilities / Technical Training Division Resources." If there are any questions, please contact Terry Jackson at (301) 415-6486. Mr. Jackson will be at the TTC during March 23 - April 3,

' 1998 for the day-shift Westinghouse simulator course.

TRR So.

Detailed Description of Proposed Resource Use:

(i) The transient data points will be used to analyze the frequency spectral content of plant variables in transient scenarios.

(2), (3), and (4) Copies of the PLS, Technical Specifications, and P& ids will provide information regarding the gain settings, time constants, and required response times of typical I&C systems. They will also provide familiarity with various types of I&C systems within a typical PWR nuclear power plant. Such information is necessary for accomplishing tasks, and assessing the impact of  ;

research results. (5) Same as purpose //1.
