. g-Enclosure REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION UNION ELECTRIC COMPANY CALLAWAY PLANT. UNIT 1 DOCKET NO. 50-483 1.

The submittal discusses a 0.5 - 0.6 gallon void that cannot be vented in the discharge of the high pressure injection pump. The submittal goes on to state that new vents were installed at the end of 1997. Please verify that with the new vents, voids in the discharge piping of the pump will not exist after venting.

2.

Please verify that the small amount of gas that can accumulate in the intemal cavities of the pump will not cause excessive wear on the pump. The cover letter to the submitta!

states that vendor information indicates that the vertical suction and discharge piping will prevent pump binding. The vendor should also be able to show that repeated pump starts with small amounts of gas will not cause problems.

3.

Please verify that there are no relative high points in the suction piping of the pump (which is not vented) and that the gas that is naturally vented into the suction will not accumulate.
