INSPECTION REPORT NO. 70-7002/98-203

Dear Mr. Miller:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission conducted a routine inspection of the Portsmouth-Gaseous Diffusion Plant material control and accounting (MC&A) safeguards program on i February 9-13,1997. The scope and results of the inspection are summarized in the enclosure, which also includes details of the inspection.

At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussert with members of your staff. No violations were identified, but one inspector followup item was opened. Three prior inspection items were reviewed and closed, while two were reviewed and remain open.

Under the provisions of Section 2.790(d), reports containing information related to a regulatee's MC&A program are exempt from public disclosure. Accordingly, the enclosure will Dgi be placed in the Public Document Room.
