NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-266/98007(DRS)
Dear Mr. Patulski:
On May 5,1998, the NRC completed an inspection of the inservice insp'
.c ;n activities and the
part length control rod drive housing modification performed at your Pc a . t: leach Nuclear Plant,
Unit 1. The results of this inspection were discussed on that date with Mr. Cayia and other
members of your staff. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
The purpose of the inspection was to review the implementation of the inservice inspection
Program for the Unit 1 refueling outage. We concluded that implementation of your Inservice
inspection Program met ASME,Section XI requirements.
In addition, this inspection reviewed activities associated with the removal and modification of
the reactor vessel head part length control rod drive housings. Your decision to remove the
part length control rod drive housings that were potentially susceptible to cracking,
demonstrated a conservative safety focus.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
We will gladly discuss any questions you have conceming this inspection.
